Feature Project

Banff Community High School
Addition & Modernization

A major modernization of the existing school included demolition to a portion of the school and an addition to the existing courtyard which reduced the size of the high school to accommodate a capacity of 350 students, increasing the utilization rate to eighty-five (85%) percent.

Upgrades met current program needs such as Career and Technology Studies (CTS). Facilities include classrooms, a visual arts shop, an art workshop, construction technology shop, computer labs, administrative offices and a community gymnasium. The library has been moved to a prominent location symbolizing the heart of the school and a great hall study space for student directed learning has been introduced. A student commons provide students and the community with a central gathering space.

This project is the first LEED™ certified (Leadership in Energy and Environ-mental Design) school in Canada, incorporating standards for developing high performance, energy efficient, sustainable buildings.
